- Seth Hampton
Seth brings 30 years in the fitness and wellness industry to his Pilates practice, now known as "SethLAtes."
Seth’s unique perspective on the human body movement started when he was a Dance Major at the Juilliard School in New York. He then toured for 20 years with both Broadway and International Touring Companies, including “A Chorus Line,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Starlight Express,” “Evita,” and ”Cathy Rigby is Peter Pan,” in which he worked as Ms. Rigby’s Personal Trainer as well as performing in the show. This demanding show resulted in Seth’s first-hand understanding of what stress and injuries can do to the body. His injuries throughout his dance career and seeing injuries in his fellow dancers led Seth to explore the world of health and fitness and finally to Pilates.
Pilates offered a more profound, wiser, and more complex understanding of the mechanics of how the body works on an anatomical level. Instead of being ‘goal-oriented, which too often results in negative body image issues and eating disorders, the Pilates technique explores and expands what the body is and what it offers through knowledge and a healthy mindset.
The “Focus” on strengthening the core elevates a natural, healthy, fit, and proportioned beautiful body while allowing us to be simply present in our body.
Seth embraces a mind-body-spirit philosophy which has culminated in his Master Trainer Certification. For the past 15 years, his mission is to share his knowledge as an educator and instructor to inspire his private clients to discover, explore, and enjoy their bodies.
All SethLAtes programs are customized and uniquely personalized to ensure that his clients gain awareness and appreciation for their bodies at any age or fitness level. SethLAtes-Pilates classes will enhance all aspects of your life.
Seth Speaks
As a dance major at Juilliard, I became obsessed with movement, the human body, and the connection between the two. After years of doing eight shows a week performing rigorous Choreography, the wear, and tear resulted in a Spondylolisthesis, in which one of the vertebrates in my lower lumbar spine slipped out of place. I was forced to slow down and learn how the mind and body are connected, and I was forced to create a practice that protected and stabilized my body to protect that area and prevent further injury. But my work is not only about prevention. It is about being in a state of presence with body and mind together. Think of a lion, in a relaxed state, lying in the grass, until suddenly prey approaches, and he snaps into a crouched position, ready to pounce. He doesn’t do bicep curls or deadlifts to get there. He just instinctively gets into position. That is what “Sethlates” is about – being present. Discover, explore, and enjoy your body through slow, deliberate, controlled movements. Don’t work hard at a workout; instead, work smart. Promote and preserve your health. Go on a journey with yourself and with me.
